Food Waste Hacks: Pumpkin Edition

Pumpkin inspired recipes, pumpkin wastage, food waste hacks.

Now that Halloween has officially passed for another year. It’s time to pack away the costume, hide the treats (until Christmas that is!) and get ready for the next round of festivities. But what happens to all the leftover pumpkins? Every year around 13 million pumpkins go to waste, for no other reason than the fact that Halloween has passed. As with all things Daily Dose, it's time to get rescuing! We’ve compiled a list together of our top 5 ways to use leftover pumpkins in the kitchen!

Zero Waste Pumpkin Soup

Soup season is in full swing and nothing screams hug in a bowl quite like a comforting bowl of pumpkin soup. To make the most out of the season we recommend roasting the flesh for a sweet nutty flavour before blending. For a crunchy topping, we love to roast the seeds. Adding a touch of paprika for spice or soy sauce for umami is a great way to elevate the flavour.

If you’re looking for  a recipe why not give this one a go:

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Not just a seasonal Starbucks order, a pumpkin spice latte is also a delicious autumnal drink! For one of our favourite recipes that includes the flesh of a pumpkin, we recommend taking a look at this one by Jamie Oliver.

For a Daily Dose twist try replacing the espresso, cream, and maple syrup with a bottle of Coffee Nusse.

Thai Yellow Pumpkin Curry

These cooler evenings have got us craving a comforting evening meal and there is no better chef when it comes to comforting than the one and only, Nigella Lawson. For an extra kick of heat and immune-boosting benefits why not try the addition of a Turmeric Tonic!

Pumpkin Hummus

Hummus is everyone's favourite! Whilst an OG hummus is pretty irresistible, the seasonal twist delivers additional sweet and nutty tastes. This BBC Good Food recipe is simple yet so delicious, definitely the most delicious lunch addition!

Pumpkin Pie

Thanksgiving is not too far away and Pumpkin Pie sounds pretty yummy to us! The subtle addition of mixed spice is what really brings this Waitrose recipe to life for us! Tucking into a slice of pumpkin pie alongside a Cacao Nusse is our idea of perfection!
